He became a successful tradesman and merchant in the town and port of Lancaster. Through his connection with Henry Coward, his master, he converted to the Quaker religion and throughout his life was involved in the day to day affairs of the Meeting. He was buried in the Friend’s Burial Ground on the 19th January 1752. This diary was serialised in the Lancaster Gazette from 2 November 1850 to the 19th April 1851. Marshall for the William Stout Tercentenary Study Group entitled “The Autobiography of William Stout of Lancaster 1665-1752.”
