Jack Bennet is a ten-year-old boy like many others, perhaps just a little shorter and thinner than average. Every morning he gets up, wraps the long blue striped scarf that his father left him around his neck and goes out into the smoky streets of London. Like many boys of his time, he works in a factory, because his mother is ill, and there is no one else in the family who can provide for them. One morning, on the way to work, Jack meets a curious character who seems to have come out of nowhere, a completely out of place man, with his elegant purple suit in the middle of the gray city. Jack observes him curiously and greets him politely, then listens to him carefully. And it’s a good thing, because the greatest adventure can begin on any day. The man gives him a key, and with that Jack begins to travel through unknown and bizarre worlds, where he encounters typographer parrots, magic books for all occasions, pirate ships, a bold but not too much girl, a dragon that spits steam and collects treasures. And much, much more.
